Camp L.E.A.D. is a week-long outdoor leadership camp for incoming freshman (current 8th graders) in Siskiyou County. Camp L.E.A.D. is typically over a week in July. A parent and camper information session will be held in Yreka leading up to the application deadline in late April. L.E.A.D. stands for Leadership Education, Adventure Driven and is formerly known as Camp Ford.

WHEN

July 16-22,2017 (Counselors start on July 15th)

The Siskiyou Family YMCA annually facilitates Camp L.E.A.D. for incoming 9th graders in Siskiyou County. This week-long outdoor leadership camp continues to be facilitated by by the Siskiyou Family YMCA and is supported by dedicated partners who support leadership programs for our Siskiyou County youth.

WHERE

Paradise Point, CA (18 miles southeast of Happy Camp) on the Klamath River. Transportation to and from camp is provided from Yreka and Happy Camp.

WHO: 

This opportunity is for incoming 9th graders in Siskiyou County, looking for a fun, challenging summer outdoors experience. Camp L.E.A.D. includes leadership development activities, river rafting, crafts, volleyball, skits, campfire, learning about nature, swimming and much, much more! Participants come to Camp L.E.A.D. to get prepared for high school: Be yourself, grow as a leader, and make new friends!

COUNSELOR INFORMATION

Counselors must have been a former Camp L.E.A.D camper or counselor and be a current high school sophomore or junior in Siskiyou County to apply. Submit two letters of recommendation to the Siskiyou YMCA by the end of April. One reference must be from a teacher/principal and the other can be from any adult, not related to you, and has known you for at least a year. 

Former Camp Ford Campers or Counselors that are current high school sophomores and juniors in Siskiyou County who wish to support incoming freshman, to better prepare them for their transition to high school, connect with the outdoors and learn and practice leadership skills are invited to apply for counselor positions. This is a volunteer position. All food, rafting, training and travel is included. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Attend the counselor orientation

  • Be a positive role model to campers

  • Lead Activities

  • Connect with the campers from your community every three months during their freshman year

This is a competitive application process. Any application filled out by a parent/guardian will be disqualified. Upon acceptance to the camp you will be provided with parental/guardian consent form, health form, and liability waiver.
